During the COVID Pandemic, many companies decided to halt in-person operations and allow employees to work from home. However, even after the world re-opened for business, many employees decided they preferred remote work to an in-office experience. We asked two Ripple Coworking members about their experiences transitioning to a remote work lifestyle.

TIPS from EXPERIENCED REMOTE EMPLOYEES

If you get an opportunity to work remotely, go for it! Work on your self-discipline! Managing your own time can be a job in itself. Find a coworking space like Ripple that offers rentable office space by the hour or day; switching up your work environment can re-invigorate your productivity!

Philipp Waeltermann Remote Worker at Ford Motor Company

Remote Worker & Software Engineer, Philipp Waeltermann

Philipp Waeltermann, a Software Engineer at Ford Motor Company and a member of Ripple Coworking, has been working remotely for two years. Philipp’s transition to remote work began after his marriage in 2022, when he relocated from his company’s homebase of California and headed to Florida with a desire to be closer to family. Remote work has given Phil more direct control over his time, but has also created challenges for his work, such as reduced access to necessary hardware he would use to run tests and diagnostics on his designs. (He also finds that he misses office life camaraderie and gossip!) Phil found that there were a lot of distractions when working from his home office, so he often works from a private office he rents at Ripple Coworking in Daytona Beach. Having an office rental allows him to be productive and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Philipp recommends considering and even prioritizing in-person work unless remote work offers significant advantages, such as a shorter commute or the ability to live in a preferred location.

Remote Working and Futurist, Nicole Baker Rosa

Nicole Baker Rosa, Head of Human Design and Development at TFSX, has worked remotely for six years. She transitioned from a company office after having her daughter and moving closer to family. Nicole believes remote work enhances work-life balance and employee satisfaction. She values the flexibility and time savings. She keeps a dedicated workspace in her home, although she occasionally dodges her at-home distractions (like kids, chores, and pets) by utilizing services like the day office rentals or coworking spaces offered at Ripple. She also found networking opportunities at Ripple that were of great benefit!

Nicole recommends remote work for its flexibility and advises setting goals and frequent check-ins to stay focused.
