Dive into the intersection of entrepreneurship and mental wellness with Flagler therapist and life coach, Michelle Lesesne-De Santis of Creating a More Powerful You.
In the world of entrepreneurship and remote work, the pursuit of success often takes center stage, while mental health and self-care can sometimes take a backseat.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the often-overlooked challenges that can profoundly impact professionals’ well-being and productivity.
In our ongoing series exploring the intersection of mental health and entrepreneurialism, we’ve had the privilege of speaking with Michelle Lesesne-De Santis, a seasoned mental health counselor, life coach with Creating a More Powerful You and valued member of our Flagler Beach coworking community.
Michelle emphasizes the pivotal role of self-care in navigating the demanding landscape of modern work. Through her insightful perspective, she delineates four key areas—health and wellness, relationships, vocation, and time and money freedom—that collectively contribute to what she terms “Full Spectrum Wealth.” From mindful nutrition to nurturing meaningful connections, Michelle underscores the importance of investing time and effort across these domains.
Michelle Lesesne-De Santis’ Recommendations for Keeping a Healthy Mind
The following is Michelle’s advice for entrepreneurs and remote workers who want to spot challenges that are often ignored, together with tips to maintain wellness. According to Michelle, “Self care is a critical component not only to overall health, but to mental health & stress management.”
She considers the idea of self care a bit more comprehensively in these four key areas:
1. Health/Wellness
How much time/effort is spent in investing in health? Investment here refers not just to monetary input but time & effort as well!
What you eat, how you move, etc. Our health is truly our first measure of wealth!
2. Relationships
How do we schedule or consciously choose time to nurture and support key relationships that enrich our lives? Reflection point: your relationship with yourself is the only relationship you know you will have for the entirety of your life! Invest wisely in it and care for it!
3. Vocation/Work
The word “vocation” comes from the Latin root vocari, which means ‘to be called’. For many people, their work is not so much a calling as an exchange of time for money. Being able to care for our work life is part of overall self care. If your job is not your “calling”, how do you find balance and joy within the confines of your work obligations?
4. Time and Money Freedom
Being able to care for ourselves means having freedom to pursue things that fill us with joy, creativity and passion.
Together these four areas of life represent the “Full Spectrum of Wealth.”
Michelle’s #1 Recommendation for Improving Mental Health
The #1 recommendation Michelle has for folks striving to improve their mental health and their overall wellness is to seek support. According to Michelle, “support can look like many things, including friend groups, church or religious groups, counseling- there are a variety of options now- or coaching.”
Statistics show that people who regularly invest in themselves and their well being have decreased levels of stress and mental health issues.
Conclusion
Michelle’s guidance resonates deeply with entrepreneurs and remote workers striving to cultivate a balanced and fulfilling professional life. Michelle reminds us that prioritizing mental health isn’t just a luxury—it’s an essential foundation for sustainable success and overall happiness.
